Top 10 Secrets of Wedding Photography Contest
Top 10 Secrets of Wedding Photography Contest
Some thoughts from years of wedding photography contest experience. It’s not about how to win a wedding photography contest, but how to understanding which may help you enjoy the contest and get more fun from it, don’t be over serious at least. Absolutely by my personal opinions. All the photos are just photos, have nothing to do with the content.
1) Good photos would win, but not all winners are good photos.
2) Contests kill personality.
3) It depends not only on the judge or judges, but on the judging method. It was the judging method that result in the final winning photos. The more judges involved, the less individual the winning photos are.
4)Only a very very small percentage of winning photos are photos that will definitely win, and most of winners are just kind of maybe YES maybe NO.
5)The judges don‘t not necessarily like the photos you like, especially when you are a photographer with a unique perspective. What you won in the end may not be the one you expected to win previously.
6)Sometimes, the competition is just more like a game of finding something different . A photo with the average quality but different content, has more chances to win, than the general content but higher quality.
7)It’s unfortunate, but the truth is that plagiarism is also as likely to win. The judges may not necessarily have seen the original work, even if it has been seen, it is difficult to determine.
8)In those competions with ranking, sometimes the ranking means nothing, the number one photo is not must be better than the number 15 photo. It’s not the best most of the time, but a nice type of photo which pleased everyone. There is an old saying in China, No Number 1 in the field of literature and art, and the second one is the first loser in the fight. (文无第一,武无第二。)
9)In one same competition , different judges arrays and processes will lead to completely different results.
10) The competition itself does not improve your level, it is the fact that your participating in the competition is the main power to improve you.
ANYWAY, retain self and enjoy photography you do believe in.

I agree! It’s the process of competing that helps you improve. The winning is nice but it doesn’t help you improve !
